WORLD BUILDING READING SESSIONS
In monthly WORLD BUILDING READING SESSIONS, we turn this year to science fiction and speculative fiction (SF) to imagine alternative futures that counter the exploitative reality of racial capitalism. We encounter narratives that can help us rethink our human perspective on Earth, to break down binaries between dystopia and utopia, real and fictional, self and world. With SF we are looking for tools to test other forms of storytelling, which in turn will be the basis of our walking, working, material explorations and compost care.

Mountains in Resistance. The School of Mountains and Water
Lecture Amanda Piña
Location: Klasse für Alle
Mountains in Resistance – The School of Mountains and Water is a long-term research project by the Chilean-born artist, researcher and choreographer Amanda Piña, who lives between Mexico City and Vienna. Piña interweaves experiences from these different places in her practice. The interplay of art, indigenous knowledge, activism and scientific research is at the heart of her work, which seeks to redefine and globally connect the relationship between people, mountains and water in the context of indigenous knowledge practices from the Americas. We will hike part of the Vienna Water Trail on Saturday, October 12th in a first MATERIAL WALK and create a first relationship to the mountains surrounding Vienna and the water that flows from them to us every day (weather permitting). Amanda’s lecture is intended to inspire us to take a closer look at the endangered resource of water, both locally and globally. In a discussion following the lecture, we will initiate a project together with Amanda Piña for early summer 2025.

COMPOST CARE
The compost collective* is again hosting regular COMPOST CARE sessions, where methods of composting are deepened and practiced for everyday life. Through composting we develop an understanding of cycles & ecosystems, collectively practicing techniques such as reading, deep listening, soundmaking, writing, movement, cooking and much more, alongside practical composting. The meetings can be simple gatherings with reading, talking and taking care of the compost heap (practical work in the garden); or members of the collective present their own composting practice.

PARTNERSHIPS
Klasse für Alle is based in the art world and aims to open up the university to people outside the artistic field. At the same time, we want to get to know different social and cultural environments and enter into an exchange with groups and associations that are interested in an artistic expansion of their field. In several meetings at different locations, we try to learn from each other, find overlaps and develop possibilities for future cooperation.
