ANGEWANDTE FESTIVAL 2025

Artists from the collective Mai Ling will read “Botany of Empire” by Banu Subramaniam with us. The book explores how colonial practices have shaped botanical science and marginalized indigenous knowledge. Instead, it proposes an anti-colonial botany that honors diverse forms of knowledge. Mai Ling Reads is a monthly reading group that promotes intersectional feminist thinking. We read together and find new connections through talking about what we have read.

Since 2022, thanks to the care of the compost collective, the garden around the compost heap has become a little oasis, a micro climate. How could we extract wisdom from the garden? Sigrid Gerl, gardener and botanist and the art collective meandr guide us through the garden, where we use mapping and other artistic methods to get to know visible and hidden beings. Collectively spinning threads, showing you the interconnectedness of the garden.

Klasse für Alle has been cooperating with Hobby Lobby since 2023: Students from Angewandte are hosting art workshops for children and young adults. They use artistic strategies to raise awareness of urban nature and biodiversity and think of ways for being together in public space. The participants strengthen each other in the group, in their skills and ways of thinking – and take a tour through an exhibition that shows these artistic processes.

Exhibition
COLLABORATIONS, COOPERATIONS, THE HONORABLE HARVEST
INITIATING AND REFLECTING PARTNERSHIPS
Daily 12 am – 7 pm
Location Studio of Klasse für Alle at Heiligenkreuzerhof

Donna Haraway taught us how to network, relate and compost connections. With Robin Wall Kimmerer, we learn to humbly and honorably harvest what we have recognized, found and joined. In the Klasse für Alle studio, we make these processes of collective learning visible through our artistic practice. Everyone is invited to join us in the daily Collaborations Office, to imagine new partnerships with us.
